Out Of Blixen is a brand new stage production from Riotous Company, directed by the award-winning Kathryn Hunter, inspired by the life and writings of Karen Blixen. Many people know Karen Blixen as the heroine of Out of Africa, the best-selling memoir that celebrates 80 years in print in 2017. Few people know the complex woman behind the myth who wrote some of the most daring Danish fiction of the twentieth century, often under pseudonyms.

Her identities were manifold: baroness, celebrity, owner of a Kenyan coffee plantation, lion hunter, fashion icon, but above all, storyteller. Karen Blixen’s stories are both comic and tragic, by turns cruel, erotic and violent. She was a sublime interrogator of the human heart, of love in all its manifestations – maternal, adolescent, carnal and divine.

Devised and performed by Kathryn Hunter, Nikola KodjabashiaMarcello Magni, Femi Elofuwujo and Mia Theil Have, with dramaturgy by Paul Tickell, original music and sound design by Nikola Kodjabashia and design by Luis F. Carvalho, Out Of Blixen celebrates the unique spirit of Karen Blixen through her remarkable stories, in an intensely physical, visual and live music performance.

Age guidance: suitable for 13+ years.
